My short story The Weiralla is included in this fantastic collection. A little background on my story: it began as a prompt of ‘hurricane’ from my local writing group. I had read a theoretical article about what happens to the electricity we all produce as living organisms and the idea that energy is neither created nor destroyed; that concept gave me a starting point. After a couple of false starts, I was listening to a song by my favorite artist Peter Gabriel titled i/o. The theme of interconnectivity struck a chord with me and the story I wanted to tell. It started to flow off of that. My story is a monster story of sorts, but though it gets tense and somewhat frightening at points, it is a positive tale of fate and what comes after this life. There is some time jumping and a back-and-forth structure, in the past and in the present, and a lot of specific imagery. So when the story is in the past, when the main character is being pursued by a monster and an unpleasant memory, the imagery is more chaotic with disorder and uncertainty prevalent. But when the action is in the present, the imagery is more of order and clarity. This is not a dialogue-heavy story, focused more on the emotions and thoughts of the main character.
My hope is that the readers will appreciate the journey and the message – that we are connected to our world in many ways, and our electric souls are just a part of the universe we live in.
So please, support this small publisher and give this wonderful collection of horror and darker fantasy a read. All the stories I have read so far have been fantastic. I think you will enjoy it as well. Get a copy of the Dark Lane Anthology Volume 14 now!
